Are Repellants Helpful to Get Pigeons out of the Attic?
Humans and pigeons have lived together for centuries now. However, sometimes they cause a nuisance in the area and may cause discomfort. Their droppings on the rooftops look hideous and would destroy the look of your house.
Also, the uric acid within the poop damages the roofs. Pigeons' droppings have different bacteria and fungi in them. Therefore, it's never recommended that you touch them.
How effective are repellents for pigeons?
For many pest animals, there are multiple chemical repellents available within the market that get rid of them. People also deploy homemade remedies to get rid of certain animals such as squirrels etc. However, with pigeons, repellents don't work that well. It's because pigeons don't have a strong sense of smell. Therefore, it's never recommended that you buy chemical repellents for pigeons as their effectiveness won't be much. These products are mainly in gel or liquid form and are applied to roosting areas of pigeons. They are quite messy and also temporary.
Pigeons do get irritated with spices as it messes with their eyes. Therefore you could use it as a repellant. However, the effectiveness of this technique cannot be guaranteed. Instead, you could use other tricks and ways to get rid of pigeons effectively.
Using a Slinky
A great alternative to bird spikes on your roofs is to use slinky. It will act as an effective repellant and wouldn't cause any harm to children or pets in your house. You need to secure a slinky on the roof by taping it over there. Keep the slinky open to one finger length, and the pigeons won't like to sit over your house anymore.
Using a Water Hose
If you want to deal with the problem manually, you could use a standard water hose. You could use the hose as a weapon against the pigeons. Bird doesn't like to be sprayed upon and would leave that place at any costs. If you keep doing this for a while, the pigeons would know that you mean business to them.
Blocking off all Entrances
If you want to get rid of pigeons permanently from your place, it's important that you seal off all openings inside your house. If the pigeons aren't able to get in, then the problem will be completely solved. You can use a sturdy cloth or plaster to close off the corners as well. In large areas, you can close off the spots using oversized pigeon nets.
You can also use other conventional techniques to get rid of pigeons. However, it's recommended that you don't use any chemical repellents. They aren't that effective and can potentially cause more damage.
