Will Noises Scare Pigeons Away Successfully?

When looking for pigeon deterrents it is easy to find many products that claim to use noise in order to frighten these nuisance birds away from your property. However many experts answer in the negative when asked ‘will noises scare pigeons away?' Using an ultrasonic device that produces a high-pitched tone audible only to the birds may work in specific situations – but will probably also scare other birds away from your property. It is also possible for some humans to be adversely affected by this type of deterrent.

Another noisemaker often recommended as a repellent is an acoustic bird scarer – this method uses the bird's own distress calls to warn other pigeons against roosting in the locality. It is also possible to use the call of a predator in order to create a danger zone. The difficulty with these types of repellents is that they rarely work on an existing problem-pigeons that are already roosting in or around your building are unlikely to be deterred by any kind of noise other than the loud bangs etc. that are unsuitable in a built up area due to the negative effects on the human population. The most successful way of dealing with roosting pigeons is to have a bird net or spikes installed.
